Cooped up with a nasty cold. Turned on the new furnace, made Irish Beef Stew with Dumplings. Ruby and I quietly rocked out to Bon Iver's For Emma Forever Ago.
Silas cracked us up last night at dinner with a dead on impression of Master Shifu from Kung Fu Panda. So funny.
Silas is in his second week of Kindergarten and likes everything about it, except maybe the learning part. Oh well, it's only Kindergarten! He has made fast friends and adores his teacher. He is in a split grade with first graders and seems to admire a few of the "older" girls.
Another walk today to explore the neighborhood. We found a little strip of shops close by that includes cafes, a video store, and a little gourmet food shop. We turned the corner and headed west and had the most unbelievable view of The Sound. Too bad we didn't have a camera with us! Smelling the ocean on a morning walk-not bad. The whole way home in the stroller, Ruby demanded ice cream upon return. Her wish is my command.
Last night we ate salsa made from the tomatoes that grow on a little patch of land between our house and the neighbor's. Today we went to the local nursery and bought a few fall flowers to plant in pots. Cabbage, Kale, and Mums. At the Farmers Market yesterday, we couldn't resist the $5 bouquet.
We walked around the new neighborhood today, made our way over to a view of the Puget Sound (maybe 8 blocks?) and took some pictures when we got there. And then when we got home, we hung the towels out to dry. Now, I am eating bonbons and watching The Soaps. No, seriously, I really am.
The Oregon Coast with family. One week of nearly perfect weather, good food, new discoveries, and a bit of a break from dealing with the move to the new house.
